§ Mr. AingerTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many RAF personnel at(a) RAF Valley and (b) RAF Chivenor were accommodated in rented private sector property in December 1992; and what was the total cost to his Department of that accommodation in each case.
§ Mr. Archie HamiltonThe numbers of RAF personnel accommodated in rented private sector property at RAF Valley and RAF Chivenor and the total costs of that accommodation to the Department were as follows:
- (a) RAF Valley
- (i) December 1991—Nil.
- (ii) December 1992–26 airmen and 10 officers, at a cost of £7,425.
A modernisation programme of officers' married quarters at RAF Valley will be completed in August 1993, after which there will be no need for officers to be in rented private sector property.
- (b) RAF Chivenor
- (i) December 1991–6 Officers, at a cost of £2,650.
- (ii) December 1992–40 airmen and I 1 officers, at a cost of £20,959.
Provision of married quarters to accommodate the above numbers at RAF Chivenor is currently being investigated.
