To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how much was spent on official entertainment in his Department during 1991–92 and 1992–93 to date.

In the financial year 1991–92, £4.007 million was spent. As at 31 January 1993, £3.283 million has been spent in financial year 1992–93. This figure includes expenditure incurred by the Ministry of Defence itself, by formations and establishments of the armed forces at home and abroad, and by individual officers occupying command and international appointments for which entertainment allowances are payable.
