HC Deb 08 February 1993 vol 218 c470W
Sir John Hannam

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the Government's policy on the insuring of wheelchairs and other aids for disabled people; what advice is given to health authorities on this; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Yeo

Guidance of national health service insurance was contained in the management executive's letter EL(90)195 of 2 October 1990. This advised health authorities that the public sector generally should carry its own risks unless greater value for money can be obtained by commercial insurance. National health service trusts are free to make the insurance arrangements which they consider to be most cost effective.
