The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the use of a floating facility on Humberside to accommodate prisoners.The use of floating vessels to accommodate prisoners is one option being considered as part of our contingency plans to deal with increases in the prison population. No final decisions have been taken to use this option or on possible locations.
