HC Deb 01 December 1993 vol 233 cc552-3W
Mr. Spellar

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he is calling to enforce the construction products directive.

Mr. Baldry

The directive was implemented by the Construction Products Regulations in December 1991. In Great Britain enforcement of the legislation is the responsibility of trading standards officers and in Northern Ireland of environmental health officers. Provision for the additional costs falling on local authorities has been made in the appropriate local authority spending assessments since 1991–92. The Department is working with the European Commission and other member states to complete the technical development of the directive as soon as possible.
