HL Deb 19 October 1992 vol 539 c74WA
Lord Orr-Ewing

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are their plans, following the withdrawal of Bloodhound, for the defence of United Kingdom Military facilities, especially aerodromes, from non-ballistic aerial attack and when they propose to order the necessary systems.

Viscount Cranborne

When bids were invited for the medium surface-to-air missile (MSAM) requirement it was made clear that consideration of MSAM procurement options following the tendering exercise would be carried out in the context of UK air defence requirements as a whole. This includes consideration of the optimum mix of aircraft and surface-to-air-missiles. We hope to announce a decision in the first half of 1993.
