HL Deb 19 October 1992 vol 539 c74WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is the case that the European Fighter Aircraft will be so costly that it will have to be cancelled unless Saudi Arabia can be persuaded to guarantee purchase of a large number of the completed aircraft before it goes into production.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Defence (Viscount Cranborne)

While it is hoped EFA will be successful in due course in winning export orders, these are not a precondition for a decision to procure it for the Royal Air Force.
