HC Deb 26 November 1992 vol 214 cc835-6W
Mr. Dafis

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make it his policy to set a target of transferring at least 10 nature conservation review sites into national nature reserves per annum.

Mr. Maclean

No. The designation of NNRs in England is a matter for English Nature. The rate of

progress depends on the funds available and the willingness of site owners to enter into the required commitments.

Ms. Short

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what amount of public money was spent by English Nature for the purchase of national nature reserves in 1991–92; and what is the expected spend for 1992–93.

Mr. Maclean

[holding answer 25 November 1992] English Nature's expenditure on purchase of national nature reserves was £81,944 in 1991–92 and is expected to be £93,000 in 1992–93.
