HC Deb 26 November 1992 vol 214 c835W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what powers are available to him to control the discharge of salt water that has been extracted from dredged sand.

Mr. Baldry

Discharges of salt water from land based accumulations of dredged sand can be controlled by the National Rivers Authority under the Water Resources Act 1991. Conditions controlling the rate and quality of the water discharged can be imposed, via discharge consents, in order to protect receiving waters.
