asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they expect Stage 2 of monetary union to be achieved on schedule.

The second stage of economic and monetary union will begin on 1st January 1994 by virtue of Article 109e1 of the treaty on European union.

The procedure for setting a date for the beginning of the third stage of economic and monetary union is set out in Article 109j of the treaty on European union.
