To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he last considered the relevance and appropriateness of the criteria employed in the recruitment and selection of persons for health boards in accordance with the procedure in paragraph 52 of "Questions of Procedure for Ministers".

[holding answer 11 November 1992]: My right hon. Friend keeps the relevance and appropriateness of the criteria for selection of non-executive members of health boards under review, and this year has widened the base of selection for appointments currently under consideration through press advertisements and approaches to a greatly increased number of organisations.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the current ratios of members of health boards; and if he will make a statement.

  • Male:female =3:1
  • Non-executive:executive =3:2
