HC Deb 10 November 1992 vol 213 c769W
Mr. Blunkett

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is her estimate of the number of junior doctors who work more than 83 hours per week; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Mawhinney

Regional task force reports, current at 31 August 1992, indicate that 3,234 junior doctors, out of a total of over 25,000, are contracted for a maximum average of more than 83 hours a week. This represents a fall of 2,041 since the last returns in February and, since September 1990, a fall of more than 10,000.
