§ Mr. WhittingdaleTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress is being made in the United Kingdom implementing Directive 89/437/EEC on egg products.
§ Mr. SoamesRegulations will be introduced to implement the requirements of Directive 89/437/EEC on hygiene standards for egg products, replacing the present Liquid Egg (Pasteurisation) Regulations 1963. A consultation paper will be issued beforehand.
Additional conditions applied to eggs from salmonella infected poultry flocks, introduced by MAFF earlier, are being withdrawn as they are outside the scope of the directive. However, the new regulations will include effective provisions relating to the handling and storage of eggs and the testing of egg products.
