HC Deb 09 June 1992 vol 209 c112W
Mr. Simpson

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will announce the date upon which the A453 (Clifton bypass) public inquiry is to be held.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

The draft orders for the A453 Clifton lane improvement are expected to be published next year and it is likely that public inquiries will then follow early in 1994.

Mr. Simpson

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether the terms of reference for the A453 (Clifton bypass) inquiry will include(a) the need for a bypass around the Clifton estate, as opposed to through it, and (b) the wider traffic implications for the Nottingham transport infrastructure.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

The public inquiries will consider all objections made to draft orders published under the Highways Act 1980 together with suggested alternative routes, and will be held by an independent inspector appointed on the nomination of the Lord Chancellor. The inspector, who is responsible for the conduct of the inquiries, will wish to hear all relevant evidence before preparing his report and recommendations for submission to my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for the Environment and for Transport.
