To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many(a) advisers and (b) advisory teachers have been employed in each local education authority area in Wales in each year since 1987.

Information on(a) the number of advisers in each local education authority in Wales is not collected on a formal basis.

Information on (b) the number of advisory teachers has only been collected as a separate category since 1990 and this is shown in the following table:

1 The source of this information is the Department of Education Form 618G which states:
"Advisory teachers are defined as qualified teachers paid under the terms of the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document but employed for purposes other than teaching. Does not include advisers or inspectors paid on other scales".
