HC Deb 16 July 1992 vol 211 cc1011-2W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has for his Department to celebrate in 1993, the European Year for Older People; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Stewart

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister on 13 July, which covered the United Kingdom position.

Scotland is represented at the United Kingdom advisory group and Scottish Office officials are working closely with those of the Department of Health in the preparations for the year. All the task groups include members from Scotland who are actively involved in the development of a United Kingdom programme which will include a range of Scottish events.

The Government have acknowledged the importance of the concerns of older people by including in the programme for the United Kingdom presidency of the EC
