HC Deb 15 July 1992 vol 211 c846W
Mrs. Roche

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many objections there were to rent officers' registrations of fair rents in London in(a) 1988, (b) 1989, (c) 1990 and (d) 1991; and what were staffing levels for the processing of these cases in each of these years.

Mr. Baldry

Objections by landlords or tenants to fair rents registered by London rent officers are considered by independent rent assessment committees drawn from the London rent assessment panel. The number of such cases received by the panel and the average staffing level of the panel's secretariat during the years in question were as follows:

Year Cases received Average number of staff
1988 6,121 39
1989 4,656 37
1990 4,887 35
1991 7,944 35

During the first six months of 1992 the panel received 3,728 cases and there were 39 staff in post at 30 June 1992.
