§ Mr. EggarA total of 12,214 staff were employed in the Department of Trade and Industry on 1 June 1992. The planned expenditure on pay for 1992–93 is £254.2 million.
Details of the staffing levels of the Department of Trade and Industry at its creation on 15 October 1970 are not readily available. The manpower provision of the Department's constituent parts six and a half months earlier, at 1 April 1970, totalled 26,483 with a pay provision for 1970–71 of £53.5 million.
