The Earl of Lindsayasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether the extension to the Jubilee line is of such strategic importance to East and South London, and to London's infrastructure as a whole, that a solution to its funding must be found; and whether, in the absence of Olympia & York's contribution, there has been consideration of more radical alternatives such as cross-funding from a road-pricing scheme or seeking a large number of smaller contributions from those businesses and communities who will benefit most from the extension.
The Minister of State, Department of Transport (The Earl of Caithness)The importance of the Jubilee line extension is reflected in the £1.5 billion which the Government is prepared to put into it, subject to the partnership arrangement reached with Olympia & York. We have made it clear that our priority remains to secure the contributions agreed under that arrangement; and that we see no prospect of authorising the start of construction unless and until we have done so.
