Sir Hector Monro

[holding answer 11 December 1992]: Figures are not yet available for the present year. The information for the five years to 1991–92 is as follows:

Sites damaged
1987–88 25
1988–89 19
1989–90 23
1990–91 30
1991–92 20

No sites of special scientific interest were destroyed in Scotland during this period.

In 1991–92, the area damaged was 2,852 hectares which represents 0.35 per cent. of the total area of sites of special scientific interest in Scotland in that year.
