§ Sir Wyn RobertsProgrammes of careers education and guidance in schools and the local education authority careers service offer pupils advice and opportunities to discuss options for school leavers, including higher education. In addition, there are a number of specific initiatives to encourage young people to consider careers in engineering, science and technology which may involve higher education. The teaching as a career—TASC—unit promotes and publicises teaching and teacher training to potential recruits. This year TASC has been specifically targeting sixth formers.
