§ Mr. Alex CarlileTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what criteria he used in proposing to increase the minimum purchase by parents, guardians, or grandparents of premium bonds for children; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. NelsonThe minimum purchase level of national savings products is kept under review. The minimum purchase level for premium bonds was raised to £100 in July 1989, except for purchases on behalf of children, which remained at £10. I have decided that, given the need to achieve running costs savings in the 1992 public expenditure survey, these thresholds should be brought into line.
