Mr. McMaster

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how much has been spent by his Department on public safety campaigns encouraging the use of domestic smoke alarms in each of the last three years; how much is budgeted for the current year; and if he will make a statement.

The Scottish Office Home and Health Department has spent the following amounts in connection with these campaigns:

The Department continues to encourage the installation of smoke alarms in domestic premises in Scotland through media advertising and the provision of publicity material to the eight Scottish fire brigades.
