HC Deb 18 October 1991 vol 196 c294W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent communications Her Majesty's Government have had with the Chilean Government over the death of Jonathan Moyle.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Her Majesty's ambassador in Santiago called on the director general of political relations at the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 16 September 1991 to ask that the Chilean authorities consider urgently what further steps can be taken to identify and bring to justice those responsible for the murder of Mr. Jonathan Moyle. On 9 October 1991 the ambassador raised the matter again with the Chilean authorities.

On 3 October 1991, my hon. Friend the Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, received an assurance from the visiting Chilean Minister of Defence that the Chilean authorities would ensure that the incident was properly investigated.
