Ms. Short

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland at the latest available date how many(a) men arid (b) women were employed on Action for Community Employment; and how many of them were employed (i) part time or (ii) full time.

Mr. Needham

At 25 October 5,511 men and 4,888 women were employed on Action for Community Employment. Of these 4,685 men and 1,808 women were in full-time employment and 826 men and 3,080 women were employed part time.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what sums of money have been contributed from the European social fund towards(a) Action for Community Employment, (b) the youth training programme and (c) the job training programme for each year since 1989; and what percentage contribution to the total costs of Action for Community Employment, the youth training programme and the job training programme this represents for each year.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the annual expenditure on the job training programme from the start of the programme to the estimated outturn for 1991–92; how much of each year's budget in cash terms was used to pay(a) the trainee's training allowances and (b) the trainee's training premium; and what was the average trainee allowance in each year.

Training premium is paid as part of the training allowance at a fixed rate of £10 per week. Records are maintained only in respect of gross training allowances (inclusive of the training premium) and are tabulated below together with information about annual expenditure and average training allowances.
