asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. (a) what percentage of money allocated to the Scottish Legal Aid Board is spent on administration, and
  2. (b) what percentage of costs in the administration of the High Court and Sheriff Court is attributable to witnesses' costs and travelling expenses.

In the financial year 1990–91, 8.4 per cent. was spent on administration. Witnesses' costs and travelling expenses are not borne by the courts.
