§ Mr. Andrew Smith
To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science, further to his answer of 6 November,Official Report, column 140, on what basis he has calculated the £25 million to be provided for 1992–93 for the costs of the establishment of the Further Education Funding Council and the removal of further education and sixth-form colleges from local authorities.
§ Mr. Eggar
The Government intend that, subject to the passage of the Further and Higher Education Bill, funding should be available to assist colleges in preparing for independence from local authority control. The £25 million included in the Government's expenditure plans for 1992–93 has been calculated on the basis that it will allow substantial help to be given to colleges for this purpose and will also cover the costs of establishing the new Further Education Funding Council.
