Mr. Strang

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the amount of expenditure directly provided by central Government in respect of local authority housing to(a) Edinburgh, (b) Dundee, (c) Glasgow and (d) Aberdeen district councils for each year since 1974–75 and in (i) cash and (ii) 1991–92 prices.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The amounts of housing support grant paid to the four local authorities referred to are shown in the tables. Before 1979–80, Exchequer support for local authority housing was provided under a variety of schemes, the details of which could not be provided except at disproportionate cost. The tables exclude subsidy paid to local authorities in respect of rent rebates.
