HL Deb 22 May 1991 vol 529 c16WA
Lord Clinton-Davis

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When they propose to issue a consultation document concerning the proposed route of the Channel Tunnel rail link between Kent and London.

The Minister of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara):

The Government received British Rail's report and recommendations for the Rail link on 3rd May, although some of the supporting material is still awaited. The Government will reach their conclusions as speedily as possible and then make an announcement about the future of the project.

To publish details of the route options which are under consideration would cause needless worry for those affected, potentially leading to widespread blight. Once a preferred route is announced, British Rail will undertake full public consultation on it.
