§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonThe latest available information is set out in the table. Promotions up to chief superintendent level are a matter for the chief constable concerned. Appointments at assistant chief constable and above are for the police authority, subject to the approval of my right hon. Friend. The Department intends to issue a circular shortly which will seek to carry forward the development of equal opportunities policies in the police service.
