HC Deb 16 May 1991 vol 191 cc269-70W
Mr. Hardy

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will take steps to provide greater security of employment both for those who staff training companies and for those who receive training; and if he will extend the period of review beyond the present one year to assist this cause.

Mr. Jackson

Security of employment for the staff of training provider companies is a matter for those companies. Where a TEC or LEC opts not to contract with a provider or reduces the number of training places the TEC/LEC is required to offer suitable alternative training for the trainees affected.

Mr. Hardy

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what provisions govern the period of notice to be given to training companies which have been required to close or severely reduce their activities in the current year; and what information he has on the actual notice given.

Mr. Jackson

The period of notice is a matter for negotiation between the training and enterprise council and the training provider concerned.
