§ Mr. HardyTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment if the Health and Safety Executive is satisfied that the toxic waste held at the premises of Wath Recycling since June 1989 is safely contained and that there is no risk to the local population.
§ Mr. Forth[holding answer 15 May 1991]: Since June 1989 the Health and Safety Executive has visited the premises of Wath Recycling to assess the company's compliance with health and safety legislation. HSE gave advice and took enforcement action to ensure that the toxic waste was properly stored. On this basis HSE has no 271W reason to believe that the toxic waste held at these premises is not safely contained, or that there is currently any risk to the local population.
Other authorities also enforce legislation applicable to Wath Recycling including the South Yorkshire hazardous wastes unit, the Rotherham metropolitan borough council environmental health department and Her Majesty's inspectorate of pollution.
