HC Deb 14 May 1991 vol 191 c88W
Mr. Tom Clarke

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what undertakings he has received from PowerGen plc that limestone will not be quarried from national parks.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

My right hon. Friend, when granting his consent for the installation of flue gas desulphurisation plant at PowerGen plc's Ratcliffe-on-Soar 2,000 MW coal-fired power station, included a condition that limestone extracted from a National Park or regional park cannot be used in the operation of the FGD plant. Any future consent which he may grant for the installation of FGD plant using the limestone/gypsum process will include a similar condition.
