HC Deb 14 May 1991 vol 191 c88W
Mr. Tom Clarke

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on the proposals of Nuclear Electric to extend the operating lives of its Magnox reactors.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

In his statement to the House on 9 November 1989, Official Report, column 1176 the Secretary of State for Energy stated: In the light of their performance to date, it should be possible, subject to the views of the Health and Safety Executive's nuclear installations inspectorate, for the lifetime of at least some of the Magnox stations to be extended. The Government will make available funds for any justifiable investment for this purpose. That remains the Government's policy.
