HL Deb 26 March 1991 vol 527 c56WA
The Earl of Lauderdale

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What additional capacity in gigawatts is expected from the 7 CCGT (combined cycle gas turbine) power stations which have received planning consent under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989; what is the total proposed capacity for the further 7 CCGT stations still being considered; and what is the total capacity expected from—

  1. (a) the 14 stations given approval under Section 14(1) of the Energy Act 1976; and
  2. (b) from the further 12 projects given approval under Sections 14(1) and (2) of the same Act.

Lord Cavendish of Furness

The total capacity of the combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) generating stations which have been given planning consent under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 is 6.3 GW. Applications for consent for a further 6.1 GW of CCGT capacity are currently being considered. Six additional projects with a total capacity of 1.1 GW have received approval under Section 14(1) of the Energy Act 1976 and 10 further projects with a total capacity of 1.9 GW have received approval under both Sections 14(1) and 14(2) of that Act. The figures vary from those in the Question as several of the approvals given under Sections 14(1) and 14(2) of the Energy Act 1976 are now being considered for planning consent under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989.
