To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what routes he is considering for the A523 Poynton bypass; and when he expects to make a decision.

Options based on the orange and green routes passing to the west of Poynton and combining with the eastern section of the proposed A6(M) to M56 (Manchester airport) link are being considered.

I hope to announce a preferred route within the next few weeks.

practices. The Dutch motorway warning light system uses a matrix signal similar to that used in England. The system is concentrated on motorways in urban areas and is automatically operated. In England more than 97 per cent. of the motorway network is fitted with matrix warning systems, 100 km are automatically operated, the rest are operated by the police.
