§ Mr. SillarsTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what conclusions his Department has reached following evaluation of reports submitted by Govan Age Concern; and what his policy is towards continuing support to this and similar organisations.
§ Mr. Allan StewartIn 1986 the urban renewal unit considered a report by Strathclyde regional council on the work of Govan Age Concern as part of the regional council's application for extension of urban programme funding for the project. The report was sufficiently favourable to warrant approval of the extension application. The maximum period of urban programme support for Govan Age Concern ended in 1989. Since then the question of continued public sector support for the project has been primarily a matter for Strathclyde regional council. The question of public support for similar organisations is in the first instance a matter for social work authorities.
