asked Her Majesty's Government:

When the woman patient at the North Wales Hospital, Denbigh, referred to in an oral question on 18th February (H.L. Deb., col. 303) first appeared in court, what were: (i) the offences with which she was charged, (ii) the dates of her subsequent appearances in court, (iii) the institutions to which she was remanded, (iv) when the court asked for psychiatric and other reports, and (v) when these were provided.

The information requested by the noble Lord is as follows:

1. The woman patient previously accommodated at North Wales Hospital, Denbigh first appeared in court in relation to the recent incident on 26th November 1990.

  1. i. She was charged with arson;
  2. ii. She appeared in court on:
    • 3rd December 1990
    • 10th December 1990
    • 17th December 1990
    • 7th January 1991
    • 28th January 1991
    • 18th February 1991
  3. iii. She was remanded to Risely Remand Centre on each occasion except 18th February, when she was detained in Ashworth Special Hospital, on an WA63 interim hospital order;
  4. iv. The court requested psychiatric and social enquiry reports on 17th December;
  5. v. The social enquiry reports were ready for the 28th January hearing and the psychiatric reports were received by the court on 18th February.
