§ Mr. ChopeThe Department's consultants are finalising their recommendations for this scheme which would involve the widening of Ironbridge and the Canning Town flyover. The intention is to hold a public exhibition later this summer in the Mayflower centre, Newham, at which the proposals will be on display allowing comments from all interested parties. This will be followed by the announcement of a preferred scheme, leading to the publication of draft orders under the Highways Act next year. Construction is currently programmed to commence in 1994. The contract will include requirements about maintenance of traffic flows and provision of safe crossing points for pedestrians during construction.
