§ 83. Mr. Austin MitchellTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will publish a table showing nationally, regionally and for each district, the total number of dwellings, the total number of owner-occupied dwellings, the number rented from (i) public and (ii) private landlords and the average rent charged for commercial dwellings in 1979 and at the latest available date.
§ Mr. KeyNational and regional estimates of the stock of dwellings by type of tenure appear in "Housing and 163W Construction Statistics, Great Britain, 1979–1989". The national estimates for December 1979 and subsequent years are in table 9.3. The earliest consistent figures at regional level, showing housing association dwellings separately from private rented dwellings, are for April 1981 and these are in table 9.4. An unpublished table for December 1989 with these categories combined has been placed in the Library. The latest available estimates, for December 1990, appear in tables 2.23 and 2.25 of "Housing and Construction Statistics, Great Britain, December quarter 1990, Part 2".
Estimates for individual authorities which are consistent with national and regional totals and tenure categories are not available. A table giving total stock for each local authority at the end of 1980 and 1990 has been placed in the Library.
