Mr. Leighton

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what percentage of the population of England is in the area covered by the East London TEC.

Mr. Jackson

Based on the OPCS mid-1989 population estimates, 2.5 per cent. of the population of England is within the area covered by the East London TEC.

Mr. Leighton

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is the percentage of the funding for youth training, employment training, business enterprise training, the enterprise allowance scheme and other departmental training programmes in England received by the East London TEC.

Mr. Jackson

Budgets for 1990–91 have been allocated by funding block rather than individual scheme. The funding allocations for East London TEC, as percentages of the national figures, are:

Mr. Jackson

The number of persons unemployed within the East London TEC area in May 1991, seasonally unadjusted, represents 3.3 per cent. of the total number of unemployed persons in England.
