§ 31. Mr. IngramTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the proposed dissolution of the Scottish new towns development corporations.
§ Mr. Allan StewartDissolution of the Scottish new town development corporations will take place in the order in which they were established—East Kilbride and Glenrothes first, then Cumbernauld, Livingston and Irvine.
I anticipate that the necessary consultation process will start in the autumn of this year with a view to the first two wind-up orders being made in December.
My intention is to base these consultations on a proposed period for wind-up of four years for East Kilbride and Glenrothes rather than the period of three years orginally suggested in the White Paper "The Scottish New Towns: The Way Ahead".
