HC Deb 17 July 1991 vol 195 c199W
31. Mr. Ingram

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the proposed dissolution of the Scottish new towns development corporations.

Mr. Allan Stewart

Dissolution of the Scottish new town development corporations will take place in the order in which they were established—East Kilbride and Glenrothes first, then Cumbernauld, Livingston and Irvine.

I anticipate that the necessary consultation process will start in the autumn of this year with a view to the first two wind-up orders being made in December.

My intention is to base these consultations on a proposed period for wind-up of four years for East Kilbride and Glenrothes rather than the period of three years orginally suggested in the White Paper "The Scottish New Towns: The Way Ahead".
