To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will quantify the costs of the public inquiry into the application by the Ministry of Defence for an extension of its dry training area on Holcombe moor, Bury, in 1988.

The Department's costs of employing the inspector to conduct the inquiry and to write his report were about £10,000.
