Data on central Government expenditure on running costs—that is, current expenditure on personnel, goods and other services used in Departments' administration—are 38W given for the years since 1986–87, in table 4.10 of the Statistical Supplement to the 1990 Autumn Statement (Cm. 1520). Consistent data for earlier years could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
