HC Deb 15 July 1991 vol 195 c37W
Mr. French

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he has received any representations about(a) the time taken for and (b) the efficiency of the transfer of funds between banks.

Mr. Maples

Yes, but very few.

Mr. French

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the level of depositors' balances in transit between one deposit taking institution and another which remains as uncleared funds at the close of each day's business.

Mr. Maples

Items in sterling in the course of transmission between one deposit-taking institution and another which are uncleared at the end of each day are estimated to be in excess of £10 billion.
