HC Deb 09 July 1991 vol 194 cc310-1W
Mr. Fraser

To ask the Prime Minister what response he has sent to the representations from Watney Truman tenants about notices to quit from Watney's brewery and in particular, the notice to quit to the proprietor of the Plough public house, Coldharbour lane, London SE5.

The Prime Minister

I have received a number of representations on this matter. The Government have expressed their concern that certain brewers are issuing notices to quit to their tenants. However, we have received assurances that the purpose of most of these notices is to allow the renegotiation of tenancy agreements. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry is keeping in close contact with the brewers and representatives of the tenants on this issue.
