To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps are taken to ensure the proper display of union flags from Government offices in Whitehall.

My Department issues instructions to other Government Departments about the flying of the union flag on buildings of which they are the sole or principal occupants. These instructions include rules for hoisting flags and the dates and occasions on which this should be done. Individual accommodation officers are responsible for ensuring that the rules are strictly adhered to.
