To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is his estimate of the number of people currently training for a British national technical engineering qualification(a) in Mid Glamorgan and (b) in Wales.

There were 505 students enrolled on Business and Technician Education Council engineering courses at higher education level in Mid Glamorgan in 1989–90, the last year for which figures are available. The corresponding figure for Wales was 2,516. At further education level the number of students enrolled was 558 for Mid Glamorgan and 3,497 for Wales.
