To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many hospitals have been closed in each year since 1974.

This information is not held centrally for the period 1974–1979. However, from 1979 to June 1991 51 hospitals have been closed in Scotland. During the same period, 74 major new hospitals have been opened.
