To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on the future of trade in textiles and clothing.

Multilateral negotiations to agree a successor regime to govern international trade in textiles after the MFA expires on 31 July 1991 are an element of the wider GATT Uruguay round discussions. The United Kingdom and EC, together with all other negotiating partners, remain committed to integrating the textiles sector into GATT on the basis of strengthening rules and disciplines.
